We were delighted to welcome Jeanette Keane and Ann Marie Ahearne from Dance Ireland to Belfast in November to attend our Skills Sharing session at The Crescent Arts Centre and present their findings on ‘Communicating Dance’ to our members.
Communicating Dance grew out of a year-long project Dance Ireland were part of with 5 other dance houses in Europe. They set out to look at the communication journeys and to create a website, road maps and resources which dance artists could use. This consultation took place with producers, programmers, dancers, choreographers and others in the field to create a resource which could be used by all. What was clear throughout the process was that when it comes to engaging venues it is a two-way street; venues need to be advocates for the process as much as the dancers need to find the right language and channels to talk about their work.
Jeanette has very kindly offered to share the resources with Dance Resource Base Members, more information as well as practical advice, templates and toolkits can be found by clicking this link to the Communicating Dance website:
Keep an eye out for future events of this kind!
